Surjan Super School NewsletterDecember 13, 2024
Dear Super School Community,
This week, we celebrate an explosion of creativity and innovation as our students continue to redefine the future of architectural education. From conceptual models to immersive spatial experiments, each project demonstrates a profound engagement with color, form, and play. Let’s explore the highlights of this week’s work:
1. Reflective Realities
Bright cylindrical forms adorned with mirrored surfaces have transformed our urban landscapes. Students experimented with the interplay of light and reflection to create structures that challenge perceptions of scale and materiality.Caption: “Golden reflections meet vibrant florals, creating a spectacle of urban renewal.”
2. Monumental Softness
Tall, inflated columns in pastel hues merge softness with monumental scale. These dynamic forms are explorations of pneumatic architecture, questioning how lightweight materials can create significant spatial impacts.Caption: “Balloons of architecture: where whimsy meets functionality.”
3. Playful Modulars
Square and cylindrical pods with circular apertures form modular systems that resemble playful toys. The juxtaposition of metallic and fabric finishes invites interaction while maintaining a futuristic aesthetic.Caption: “Modularity reimagined: childlike joy in complex systems.”
4. Nature and Architecture in Harmony
Vegetation and built forms converge in floating pavilions. Students explored ecological balance by integrating greenery into suspended platforms, offering a vision for sustainable, symbiotic urban spaces.Caption: “Rooftop gardens, but airborne: sustainability elevated.”
5. Inflatable Assemblies
Our studio was filled with experiments in inflatable architecture, from organically shaped canopies to oversized flower motifs. These designs celebrated adaptability and the transformative potential of air as a construction material.Caption: “Blossoming ideas: inflatables that embrace nature.”
6. Symbolic Storytelling
Bright yellows and pinks dominated a series of narrative-driven projects. With symbolic motifs like flowers and geometric patterns, students envisioned structures that embody stories of joy, resilience, and community.Caption: “Architecture that tells stories in every curve and line.”
Upcoming Events
Final Critique Week: Join us next week to witness the culmination of these incredible designs in a public showcase.
Guest Lecture Series: Friday, December 20th – Exploring “Ephemeral Urbanism” with architect and theorist Dr. Lila Karis.
As we approach the end of the year, let us continue to push boundaries and inspire one another. The Surjan Super School is a space where the impossible becomes possible—one model, one drawing, one vision at a time.
